What's the STEM Fair about? PCCY is bringing together some of the best organizations in our region to do STEM related, fun, activites from 11am to 5pm. Your "gamer" ticket includes all day access to the Fair and your "non-gamer" ticket gets you access to just the Fair. In the Fair, you'll find a Minecraft theme facepainter - The Academy of Natural Sciences will help you build your own board game - The Philadelphia Zoo will lead kids through a project to build a home for one of four animals - Coded by Kids will run coding workshops - Tech Girlz will run coding workshops specifically for girls 8 to 17 - The Free Library will have robotic kits that kids can build a small robot... there's so much more to do with over 20 different activities and lots of fun to be had! Why Our Event? Our event will feature "Miners" and "Crafters" playing the game they love and celebrating their passion for creative play, with competitive and non-competitive sessions and prizes for participants. The money raised will further our mission to improve the life chances of children by advocating for adequate funding of public schools, affordable and better access to pre-k for working families, and making sure every child has health care coverage.
- FOR GAMERS: Enjoy over about three hours of everything you love about Minecraft. You'll have the ability to share and learn, tips and tricks with others and compete for prizes. Form teams and guilds. Make new friends. Be sure to check out the activities at the "STEM Fair" before you leave!
- NON GAMERS: Our "STEM Fair" will include constructing arts & crafts projects. Doing a building block challenge. Singing along in Minecraft Karaoke. Walk around our vendor fair and cheching out the Minecraft merchandise. Experience fun and scientific experiments. There'll be live music, food, fun and prizes throughout the day! There wll be so much to do at STEMCraft!
Why Minecraft? If you’re unfamiliar with Minecraft, all you need to know is that it’s a game that encourages creative thinking, exploration and collaborative play and has been embraced by educators all over the world as a new tool to engage with their students. The game world is presented in first-person perspective—you can go anywhere and do anything. How you play Minecraft is entirely up to who is playing, whether you want to build structures or sculptures using cube building blocks or explore the ‘open’ world and embark on adventures alone or with friends.
